Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at heavenzloveranch@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Absolutely. I provide videos and photos of available and requested chicks, chickens, and roosters prior to ordering, when I have a surplus. For biosecurity purposes though, customers remain at the customer parking area and I bring the order down to their vehicle. I am not a feed store or pet store, so customers are not able to come onto the property where all of the chickens are housed and free ranging. If I do not have a surplus, a customer orders based on photos just as they would for any other poultry business.

Yes. The breeds I have with the feather colors and rainbow egg colors are considered more rare than the usual production birds. My breeds are heritage dual purpose and some are actually difficult to get from popular hatcheries. Most poultry businesses do not have vaccinated chicks and their base prices are often $5-$10 more than what I am charging for the quality of my birds. Let me give you a few examples. Meyers has BBS Marans day old, unvaccinated chicks for $10.05-16.31. Lavender Orpington are $16.31, BBS Ameraucana are $23.07, BBS Olive Eggers are $23.07. McMurray McMurray does not carry my BBS Marans, Ameraucanas, Olive Eggers, and their straight run unvaccinated Lavender Orpington are $10.00. Cackle Hatchery has BBS Ameraucana for $15.99, unvaccinated. Their minimum is 15 chicks. Alchemist have their own created hybrids and they start at $15 and go up to $25 per unvaccinated chick. Their minimum is 10 chicks before June 1st and 6 chicks after June 1st.

Pullets as a general rule are more expensive than "straight run" chicks or cockerels. The older chicks get, the closer they are to laying eggs. I pay for feed, give my time, brooder and coop space with shavings, and shower them with a lot of love, which is why my chicks are social and happy. So when I identify a pullet, the value goes up every few weeks until she is purchased. Customers get the benefit of an older pullet or laying hen without having to have put in the time, money, and effort of caring for them as baby chicks. A laying hen has been cared for upward of 5-7 months, at least, before she begins laying. The value in care alone is exponential. Proven layers that have been my breeding hens will have an increased value as I know what kind of chicks they hatch and what kind of eggs they lay.

No. Once chicks leave the ranch, they do not come back for biosecurity purposes. Customers are responsible for the care and well-being of their chicks, regardless of sex, once they take them off of the ranch property.

Due to countless variables, such as temperature in car on drive home, brooder placement and heating proficiency, stress from established flock, stress from improper handling, inefficient hydration or food provided, toxic soil, exposure to unknown viruses, and many other variables, I simply cannot be accountable for a chick, hen, or rooster once they leave the ranch property. Customers are responsible for the care and well-being of their birds once they leave the ranch property. I provide health check videos for customers, videos are posted on my social media platforms, and customers have ample time to check their birds when they receive them before they leave the ranch property. Concerns need to be brought up prior to leaving the property when I am present so that I can see with my own eyes what is going on and address it right then and there. At that point, if a chick does not look right, I will keep the chick and refund the amount paid.

Before I start selling fertile eggs, I set a breeding pen with hens/rooster for a minimum of 10 days and then I will crack open eggs to see if there is a fertilization bullseye. If I see regular bullseyes, then I will take eggs from their pens and incubate them, candle them, and track the air cells. This process takes a little extra time, but it is worth being sure.

No. I guarantee fertility, but I cannot guarantee viability or hatchability due to the wide array of variables that affect viability and hatchability. Customers are responsible for purchasing a quality incubator, hygrometer, and candler, tracking air cells, and keeping detailed records.
